Nike announced a second 2026 round on April 23, cutting approximately 1,400 roles globally with the majority in technology. The cuts came via COO Venkatesh Alagirisamy's note to staff and are part of CEO Elliott Hill's "Win Now" turnaround strategy. Affected regions include North America, Asia, and Europe, representing less than 2% of the company's total global headcount.
The April cuts follow an earlier January 26 round of 775 layoffs at U.S. distribution centers in Tennessee and Mississippi, which Nike attributed to accelerating automation. Combined with roughly 1,000 corporate cuts last summer, Nike has made three consecutive rounds of reductions under Hill's turnaround.
