Obsidian Entertainment announced layoffs of 65 employees in July 9, 2026. Microsoft laid off about 25% of Obsidian, roughly 60 to 70 people including many senior developers, as part of Xbox's restructuring. The studio's in-progress Avowed sequel was canceled and Obsidian is pivoting to a new Fallout game led by studio veteran Josh Sawyer.
